We’re back for another round of creativity and sustainability!
In 2025, Artzei Studio joined ALBA International E-Waste Day to bring a little creativity to the conversation around electronic waste. This year, we returned with a slightly different approach, offering two ways for participants to turn recycled keyboard keycaps into something they could take home: mechanical switch clickers and keychains.

From E-Waste to Something Worth Keeping
Electronic waste can be easy to overlook. Keyboards get replaced, devices become outdated, and the things we use every day eventually reach the end of their useful lives.
But what happens next?
For these workshops, ALBA provided recycled keycaps recovered from the keyboards they collected. At Artzei Studio, we incorporated these keycaps into new creations, transforming discarded components into functional, personalised accessories.
Rather than simply talking about recycling, participants got to experience one possible next step for materials that might otherwise be thrown away. They could handle the keycaps, choose how to customise their creations, and leave with something they had made themselves.
Of course, creative reuse is just one part of the bigger picture. Responsible e-waste collection and recycling remain essential to managing electronic waste properly. But finding new uses for recovered materials can also help us look at familiar objects differently.
Sometimes, a keycap is more than just a keycap.
Making Sustainability Hands-On
One of the things we enjoy about these events is seeing how people approach the same materials in different ways.
Some participants focus on colours and combinations, while others enjoy the process of putting the pieces together and seeing how everything works. With both clickers and keychains available this year, there were different ways for people to explore their creativity.
For us at Artzei Studio, that's what makes a hands-on workshop meaningful. It creates an opportunity for people to learn by doing, experiment with materials, and walk away with something tangible from the experience.
Sustainability can sometimes feel like a big, abstract topic. Activities like these bring it a little closer to home by showing how discarded objects can become starting points for something new.
